Beyond Narcissism to order from BOL.COM

Summary
Beyond narcissism in your relationships, family and work by Mjon van Oers shows in a clear way how narcissism can affect all facets of life and what you can do to protect yourself. From a narcissistic parent to an executive, from a narcissistic partner to the CEO, narcissism is everywhere. Beyond Narcissism is written from the heart for anyone dealing with this complex phenomenon. With a narcissist, many people think of someone with too much self-love. But self-love comes in many degrees. A healthy dose is good for functioning in our complex society. A narcissist, however, involves a deep pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration and lack of empathy. The question is: How can you fathom a narcissist as a person with a disturbed personality and protect yourself? You can’t look inside someone’s head to see if they might have delusions of grandeur, or think they have special rights. On top of that, narcissists are also sometimes very nice, exciting and charming people. Therefore, it is important to learn to recognize signs of narcissistic disorder and learn how to guard against it. Beyond Narcissism is a very complete book full of examples, evidence, stories of experience, tips and techniques.

Review(s).
Living with a narcissistic partner, colleague or family member is often a big deal. Narcissism is often not recognized as such, so the problems shift to the environment. In this book, an expert by experience explains what narcissism is and what it does. Not with the pretense of making a scientifically sound diagnosis, but to get a picture of some traits and the possibilities for change. But the book focuses mainly on what the narcissist does to those around him. How can you deal with a narcissist? Taking distance is the most important thing though, not to go under. It is often necessary to rebuild self-confidence and start living out of love instead of fear. The book is very comprehensive with quite a bit of repetition. Quite understandable, though. Not very difficult. Great for people in the immediate vicinity of a narcissist. Also welcome information for social workers.
