Survival is the core. How to survive. That is the job of my BodyMind. My body and in it my nervous system and everything those two can do is focused on survival. Through physical movement, for example away from something threatening, or by thinking of something that keeps me safe or even feels somewhat seemingly safe. It is not much more complex.
If it’s safe in A then I’ll stay right there. And if it is not safe in A then I move away from it, I distance myself, create distance. Distancing and dissociating are similar. Both are about decoupling. One by taking physical distance. The other by breaking a connection, letting go of a common association with reality. Thus, because I have memories of other situations in my existence, I can follow a devised preference on where to go when I want to get away from A. And if this is a tried and true method then I keep using that as a pattern to go to safely. Easy piezy.
Everything can be traced to this basic idea of survival. And because we are complex beings after x billion years of development of life on Earth, it seems to have become more complex. As if it were about something else. But I challenge you to find something that is not about this A to B principle. Skin cream? Car ownership? See a psychologist? Cheese sandwich?
